Trash Monsters

For the last two weeks, the Primary Class has learned about “trash words”.  No, no, not cuss words.  Although, the act of cussing was mentioned.

Sandra explained to the kids that “trash words” were actions that God does not approve of.  Sandra lead the kids in a review of the Ten Commandments and gently reminded the kids that the Commandments are pleasing to God and are things we should strive to keep and do, like obeying our father and our mother.  She asked the kids what things God might not approve of.

God does not approve of things like lying, cheating, bullying, and cussing.  She explained to the kids why these things are bad and God disapproves of them.  The Bible tells us that we should always be honest and tell the truth.  If we lie about the truth, we are letting sin into our hearts.  If we cheat, like on a test in school, we’re stealing answers from someone else.  If we bully someone, we’re not helping them grow closer to Christ. Cheering on Jesus

Buckeye Bible Buddies met for their January meeting on Thursday, January 19th.  (Reminder:  Bible Buddies will now be held on the third Thursday of the month)

When the children entered the church, they were greeted with a balloon arch and a cheering squad to get them excited about attending Children’s Church.

The meeting started off with the cheerleader’s getting the children involved in a few cheers about Jesus before prayer requests were given in.  When all the prayer requests had been heard, the children, cheerleaders, Caleb, and Sandra all gathered around the alter to pray for those requests.

Caleb started off the lesson by asking the children how Christians cheer on Jesus.  He told the kids there are a number of ways a Christian can cheer on Jesus– telling others what He has done for them or praising Him during a church service, just to name a few.  Caleb then asked Jesus to come out and greet the kids.  Jesus was able to “heal” Cayden’s leg, which he later thanked Jesus for. Last Sunday, Sandra had a couple special quests help teach a lesson on “words” to the Primary class.

Sandra started off by asking the children if they knew the definition of “word”.  If you’ve never really thought about it, defining “word” is a pretty hard task to do.  The Primary Class had a difficult time trying to explain to Sandra what it actually meant.  After a few minutes of repeating “word” over and over and trying to pass that off as the definition (and a fit of giggles), then Sandra brought in three special guests, Tracy, Lacy, and Stacey, to teach the children what the Bible has to say about words.

The scriptures tell us the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  There are many, many scriptures in the Bible that tells us which words we should keep out of our mouths and which words we can use to help someone and lift someone up. Continue reading “Word!”

Warm the Heart

Since we’re in the middle of winter (well, supposed to be in the middle of winter…), Sandra used the cold weather as an opportunity to teach her class about staying warm.

No, not staying physically warm.  But instead, keeping our Christian hearts warm.

To do this, Sandra showed the class a pair of gloves and a pair of mittens.  She had a couple of the kids put the gloves and mittens on their hands and after a few minutes, asked the kids which one of their hands were the warmest. Continue reading “Warm the Heart”

Happy New Year!

For many people, a new year brings around New Year’s resolutions.  Most of us know that a  New Year’s resolution is simply a goal or a promise to ourselves that we are going to do something different in the New Year, whether that is lose weight, travel more, or learn a new language.

Sandra used New Year’s Day as an opportunity to teach the Primary Class about making resolutions, or promises, for Jesus.  Sandra explained to the kids that the promises we make to God are promises that we should do everything in our power to keep.  These are promises that we should not break.  She asked the kids what kinds of resolutions they might make in order to improve their Christian walk.

Go to church more. Continue reading “Happy New Year!”

Are You Truly Thankful?

Buckeye Bible Buddies held their November meeting on November 16, 2016.

The meeting started off with Sandra asking the kids if they had any prayer requests. After several kids voiced their requests, Keira and Kiana led the rest of the children in prayer.

After prayer, Sandra showed the kids a box she had sitting on the alter. She asked the children if they knew which holiday was quickly approaching and asked if they knew what the holiday meant.

“Thanksgiving!” Matt shouted. “It means I get five days off from school! I’m thankful I don’t have to go!” Continue reading “Are You Truly Thankful?”

Biblical Bad Guys: Goliath

In the final installment of the Biblical Bad Guys series, the Primary Class learned about Goliath.

Sandra started off the lesson by telling the kids about how the Children of Israel were in a battle against the Philistines.  The Philistines were a mighty army that the Children of Israel were having a rough time defeating.  One reason the Israelites had a hard time was because the Philistine’s mighty warrior, Goliath, was the meanest, toughest, and tallest warrior of all.  He was over nine feet tall!

To give the kids a visual of just how tall Goliath was, Sandra marked off nine feet of masking tape on the floor and labeled it Goliath.  She had each kid lay in the floor next to Goliath’s measurements and Sandra measured how tall they were and marked it with more masking tape.

No ‘Lion’ Jesus saves!

On October 31st, 2016, Buckeye Bible Buddies set up at the Saltville Trunk or Treat.  Local area churches and individuals who wanted to attended were invited to set up along Main Street and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Buckeye Bible Buddies decorated their vehicle to look like a lion’s den.  Daniel, thrown in the den, sat in the car, while lions handed out candy and an invitation to Buckeye Bible Buddies Children’s Church to the trick or treaters as they passed by.  The lions had 500 invitation cards to pass out to children and every card was passed out!

It is our sincere prayer to see Bible Buddies grow!

Biblical Bad Guys: Satan

This past Sunday in the Primary Class, the kids learned about the ultimate Biblical Bad Guy, Satan himself.

Sandra started the class off by asking the kids who they thought was the worst bad guy in the Bible.  After a moment of thought, Owen declared the devil had to be the worst.  Sandra explained to the kids that at one point, the devil wasn’t a bad guy.  In the beginning,  Satan, or Lucifer as he was called, sat with God in Heaven and was the most beautiful angel of all.
